My web design career began in early 1995 because AOL's by-the-hour pricing had gotten too hefty. Louisville didn't have much of a presence then, so I worked with the Louisville visitor's bureau to create their first web site. The earliest version I could find on Archive.org is below (it was that or try to hook up an old Syquest disk to an old Macintosh!). After all, what could be more fitting for my recent re-entry to the world of web design.
The story of my journey from then to now is a long one, but relevant for this post is the fact that I took time off and worked in print, then spent a year at home with my baby son.
How things have changed! I have spent the last few months forcing myself to learn - and implement - CSS with tableless layouts (I was a master of the blank.gif cell spacing unbreakable table templates mind you!). I have spent countless hours reading every SEO tidbit along with every Web Useability, Accessibility, 508, or ADA compliance checklist. Hey like those keywords?
It is comforting and amazing to find how sites have changed and expanded (like SearchEngineWatch.com) and I am amused by the explosion of community (err 'Web 2.0') sites and article/link aggregators (did anyone see Useless Profile recently?)
I set up this blog to reach out to Louisville web designers. Who are you? Where are you? What are you doing lately? Have you stepped up to CSS-P? Are you recommending accessibility standards? What ever happened to Kai's Power Tools and what do you think Adobe is going to do with Macromedia's titles (I haven't had time to read up on that topic yet)?
That's it for now... P.S. I will be editing this Minima template. I like Blogger 3 but few templates exist so we got some work ahead here. Stay tuned...
