Learning, learning, every day
First I must mention, that the only site I visit more than this one, is Google: Web Developer's Handbook and I want to personally thank Vitaly Friedman for keeping it well-maintained.
Thank you!
This week has been learning more about the .NET 2.0 environment we work with here at IPOP.com. I have to say it's a bit frustrating when the minute you learn about some promising functionality - you also learn about its shortcomings. Whomever devised the .NET Themes was not thinking about issues like CSS media type or style switching or a lot of other things.
Seems like there are so many specialties now, and AS USUAL about 5 ways to skin the cat, so to speak. Very important to get everyone talking and on the same page.
I have decided to focus my learning on client-side/front-end... I am learning more and more about javascript, which is fun.
That's it for now.

Copy, Edit, Paste
Lately I have been working on creating and refining our company's web strategy questionnaire document. I'm pretty excited about it and it has incorporated a lot of different sources.
So this morning, I thought I would do some searching and double-check to see the my structure is a good one, and that I have covered relevant questions.
What I found was... hopefully a lot of old documents.
I swear, I read what other people write and sometimes I think I should just go into process document development full-time. Haha.
There is obviously a source out there that SEVERAL companies have taken, copied and pasted. There's this one that tells people to "take a field trip" and go look at other web sites and list three that they like. It asks about colors and design of the site etc - which in my mind makes it strictly design related.
The real punchline is that this part of the questionnaire is in "Competitive Analysis". OK sure it's related, but..
What's really interesting though - is that MOST of what I have seen is not Goal and Solution related. Still? In 2007?

Kentucky Derby Festival is almost here!
It's a great time to be in my city, Louisville, KY, for sure, as April 21 kicks off the Kentucky Derby Festival with Thunder Over Louisville, North America's largest fireworks display. My grandfather, Robinson S. Brown Jr, was the "Thundernator" a couple years ago - that's the guy who pushes the "start button" for the show. It was special as he was an early KDF board member, and he died a few months after that event in July 2005.

SEO Laundry List
I'm working on an SEO client questionnaire for the sales team at my job, and also a "laundry list" of important search engine ranking factors for myself and a coworker.
SEOMoz.org has a nice summary from industry experts:
Search Engine Ranking Factors.
The report was done for 2005 I believe - it would be great if they updated it.
P.S. I said I'd redo this template didn't I? haha... sheesh. It's on the list. Somewhere.

Global Disaster Alert Map
I blogged this because I love information, and it's just an incredible use of the web - RSOE EDIS. It maps real-time events all over the world. Tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, chemical leaks, even airplane incidents and significant car accidents.
